This installment of my Kansas Fair Affair blog is all about July 26, 2012 and how I traveled to and photographed three different Kansas county fairs in one day.
The first fair that I made it to was the Geary Co. Fair in Junction City, KS. The reason I'm not giving the Geary Co. Fair it's own post is that I took a whopping 25 images there. It was high noon when I arrived(not the best time for award winning photography light) in Junction City, 102 degrees in the shade and there just wasn't anything going on besides a couple of kids washing some pigs and sheep. The Geary fair doesn't have a carnival, it's just a 4-H fair and everyone must have been out to lunch when I got there, because it was deserted. I stayed just long enough to get a shot of the best bbq sign I've ever seen(I love the X's on the poor pig's eyes!) and then I hit the road and headed to Larned, KS.
The Pawnee Co. Fair in Larned, KS is also just a 4-H fair. There were quite a few people preparing their animals for show when I arrived. I met a lot of friendly folks who were nice enough to let me bother them with taking a few portraits. Here are a few of the kids that I met...
Cassandra and Ying the rabbit - Pawnee Rock, KS
Ross, Ella, and Emma(didn't get the name of their sheep) - Larned, KS
Reid and his cow Buddy - Larned, KS
Dillan and cow Willie - Larned, KS
Jansyn and her cow Jaunita - Larned, KS
I couldn't stay long in Larned as I had one more fair to get to that day, the Kiowa Co. Fair, in Greensburg, KS, but I'll save that one for my next post!
Here are some images!
